Allie Goodman


My goal is to help make cooking more approachable for the every-day home cook. If you're one of those people who look at Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration on what to cook that night (or that week), see these perfect-looking dishes and think, 'I can't possibly recreate that,' then this site is for you. The dishes we create here will be delicious and it's our goal to make them look amazing too, but they'll also be approachable!

Another really important thing we want to do is arm our readers with the basic skills and tools to be a successful home cook. Whether you're cooking for your family or entertaining a group of 10 for a dinner party, we want to be sure you have everything you need to be successful.


Welcome to my kitchen! I’ve had a passion for food for as long as I can remember. My mom was and still is a huge influence on me and really showed me the ropes in the kitchen. As a child, she brought me to countless cooking classes and even took me to get a kids cooking certificate at George Brown College. At age 11, it was my mother who took me to meet Julia Child at a book signing. I still have that book and it’s one of my most prized possessions!  My three siblings and I grew up not knowing that store-bought salad dressing exists, and I was eating sushi and ordering octopus off restaurant menus by the age of seven. 

My time in university is when I really got to explore my cooking skills and loved to experiment with food. Rather than making the typical mac and cheese, my roommate and I loved to cook new and unusual dishes. After graduation, I spent a year doing the Culinary Arts program at George Brown College to further enhance my skills. I’m now a stay-at-home mom and my husband and two kids are the test subjects for all of my newest ideas. In the summer, I grow my own produce and love to create wonderful and delicious meals with fresh ingredients. I’m so incredibly proud that my three-year old knows the difference between shiitake, crimini and button mushrooms and always tells me, “Mommy, you’re the best cook!” Some of his favourite things to help me with are kitchen prepping, measuring ingredients and most of all, tasting the food! I can’t wait for my one-year old to join us!
